ABOUT US

The Sunny Side for the Disabled People Foundation incorporated in 1996 carries on its work in several areas of Hungary, with particular emphasis in Szeged.

1. Daily activities: Since November 2007 The Sunny Side for the Disabled People Foundation has built a network of helpers who assist on a daily basis with disadvantaged people free of charge. We help older and/or disabled people with home care (shopping, cleaning, hygiene care, administration, supervision, escort, etc.), and in doing so improves the quality of their life. Since 2009 The Sunny Side for the Disabled People Foundation has had a programme in specialised educational institutions, where trained dogs are used to improve the challenged individuals movement, coordination and physical abilities. The foundation promotes assistance for impaired individuals into the labour market with advice and mentoring. In this aspect the Foundation employs disabled individuals (legal and economic affairs, consulting, organizational tasks, website maintenance, etc.).

2.  Weekly activities: Bible classes, including singing and manual tasking, which are undertaken in a controlled and pleasant off site environment.

The lives of these young people, who are institutionalized in many areas of the country are enhanced by visits from our volunteers and in some cases our volunteers take them home to experience family life and quality time in a family environment.

3. Monthly activities: General entertainment, art-therapy, film clubs, sporting activities, excursions (e.g. botanical garden, zoo, amusement park, wellness spa, theatre, concerts, etc.), self-awareness and independency.

4. Summer activity: 6-8 organized holiday events in controlled resort type environments catering for a total of 500-600 individuals. These activities help the young individuals in self-development and assist with their integration into the community. These camps also help the young individuals to experience life in a friendly holiday environment.

5. Events: The Discover/Accept project is an interactive programme where the general public are invited to experience the day to day living difficulties of the handicapped.  Visits to schools during class hours are also undertaken by young people with disabilities to educate the able bodied to the difficulty with handicapped living. Fund raising events are undertaken throughout the year to raise revenue in order to finance specialist treatments and specialized care for the severely handicapped in the community.

Our goal: to promote social equality for disadvantaged groups, disfunctional families, the handicapped and individuals with intellectual disabilities.

The handicapped have the right to a life which ensures dignity, confidence and the facilities for an active participation in the community.
